A one-day Daytona Beach itinerary without a car can focus on the beach, the Boardwalk and Pier, and the oceanfront Bandshell, with a museum visit as a further stop. From Sunshine Inn of Daytona Beach, the city centre is about 32 minutes on foot, and Votran serves the Bandshell on Routes 8 and 19.

  • Start: Daytona Beach is accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists free of charge, around the clock, subject to tides and weather.
  • Oceanfront stops: The Boardwalk area includes shops, food options and the Bandshell, beside the Pier.
  • Transit: Votran Routes 8 and 19 serve the Daytona Beach Bandshell.
Start with the beach and boardwalk

Start with the beach and boardwalk

Begin your day at a pedestrian beach access point, then make the Boardwalk area your first cluster of stops. Daytona Beach has 26 access points for pedestrians and/or vehicles within five miles, and beach access for pedestrians and bicyclists is free.

Tides and weather affect beach access, so check conditions before you set out. The Boardwalk area includes Ocean Walk Shoppes, gift shops, snack bars, restaurants and an arcade, giving you options for a break without needing to leave the oceanfront.

Beach rules prohibit alcohol and glass containers. Pets are not allowed, apart from guide dogs accompanying people with visual impairments and hearing-ear dogs accompanying people with hearing impairments.

Walk or ride toward the Pier and Bandshell

Walk or ride toward the Pier and Bandshell

The Daytona Beach Pier and Bandshell make a natural next stop because they sit within the same oceanfront area. The Pier, also known as the Main Street Pier, has been a Daytona Beach landmark since 1925.

Breakers Oceanfront Park is next to the Pier at 13 S. Atlantic Ave. Its outdoor features include walking paths, restrooms, water fountains, a splash fountain and handicapped beach and pier access. Ora Street Park, behind the Bandshell, provides beach access by a walkover.

Votran Routes 8 and 19 serve the Bandshell. Most scheduled bus service runs Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; some routes run earlier or later, and limited Sunday and night service is available in the Greater Daytona Beach Area. Check the Votran official site before you go for schedules and route details.

The Boardwalk and Pier host Bandshell concerts and fireworks every year from May through September. If your visit falls within that recurring program, check local listings for the schedule.

Add a museum or nearby landmark

Add a museum or nearby landmark

Save a museum or landmark for the later part of your day, after the oceanfront stops. The Museum of Arts & Sciences is a possible cultural addition; what to see and how to visit the Museum of Arts & Sciences can help you plan that stop.

Tarragona Tower is another named landmark to consider, though the route facts do not establish a car-free connection from the beach.

Check local transit and walking conditions

Check local transit and walking conditions

For a car-free day, use the beach, Boardwalk and Bandshell as the core route, and confirm transit before adding stops farther away.

Beach access and vehicle access follow different rules. Beach access for pedestrians and bicyclists is available around the clock, subject to tides and weather; vehicle driving and parking on the beach are permitted from sunrise to sunset from November through April, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from May through October, also subject to tides and weather.

Seasonal conditions can shape a beach day; what Daytona Beach is like in winter may help you choose when to plan yours. Before leaving, verify current beach conditions and Votran service with the relevant official sources.
